Why Save Face….?
Figured this would be an ideal opportunity to start my blog posts.
It was really important to us when we were building our vision for the clinic, that people feel safe when receiving care and treatments at The York Skin Clinic. Although we are awaiting CQC registration which is where the care quality commission come and inspect you and rate you on being safe, effective, quality and being well led in terms of providing medical interventions, they do not cover cosmetic treatments such as anti wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, skin boosters, microneedling, skin treatments. So we felt it was important alongside CQC that we were also inspected for these procedures.
Save face is the only government approved register for non surgical procedures (aesthetics ) in the UK. Aesthetics in the UK is un regulated currently and this means that there is huge inequity within treatment outcomes. Save face ensures that the practitioner has a medical background that means they are either a doctor, dentist, nurse or prescribing pharmacist, that this practitioner is trained and holds certificates for each treatment that they provide and that their insurance policy provides appropriate cover.
They also check we are purchasing our products and prescription only medication from approved pharmacies and stockists, as well as this they also inspect the clinic environment ensuring that it meets strict infection control and health and safety requirements.
Working in the industry for almost a decade, I have heard many stories that make my jaw drop;
“ I went for lip filler with my friend, and I could feel the needle hit my gums, after she finished mine she did my friends, there was no sink in the room, and she didn't leave the room between treating me and then my friend.”
“ I was treated by a doctor so I felt it should be safe, however I was left throughout treatment, whilst she went to treat other people. I felt very unsafe during the treatment- she didn't seem to know what she was doing and I couldn't wait to get out of the clinic. I then developed a severe allergic reaction the following day, where my whole face swelled significantly, she sent another practitioner to my home address to provide an injection, I am not sure what it was. I have been left with swelling under my eyes and that was over 4 years ago. “
“ I went to a salon to receive skin booster injections, during the appointment the practitioner told me my chin was out of proportion and that I would look more attractive with chin filler- I had never been concerned about my appearance before this moment. “
At The York Skin Clinic, you should feel safe, supported and empowered to age well with safe and effective anti ageing and skin treatments.
We are all individually beautiful and we should not be striving for this one shape fits all approaches for aesthetics, why on earth would we all want to look the same….
